About

Blue Sunrise
My 2-D work is comprised of a variety of materials, which include: fabric, collage, charcoal, graphite, and thread, in addition to acrylic and poured layers of medium. My paintings entertain opposite ends of the spectrum, from gestural and dirty to hard and graphic. The combination of the two is what interests me most, while also inspiring my mixed media approach to working. As far as inspiration is concerned, I would have to say that I am heavily influenced by social issues of today, with an emphasis on ideas of religion, sexuality, and gender roles; while also examining my own role in society, as an artist who happens to be female. This battle of introspection and outward directness defines my work in one regard.
On the other hand, the nature of my work being, for the most part, abstract, must also lend itself to basic elements and principles of design. Each piece is an exploration of texture, materials, and technique to name a few; while also keeping in mind the image created as the final product.
So, in addition to the use of symbols to convey various social aspects of the world we live in, my work is also very much about process and product.
